The Jealous Cat

A jealous cat

Ben and Clara are a couple. They live in a small town. Ben is a book lover, and Clara loves to bake cakes. They have been together for two years, and they are very happy.

One evening, Ben comes to Clara’s house. He brings flowers and a small chocolate cake.

Clara opens the door and smiles. “Oh, is this for me or for the cat?” she laughs.

Ben laughs too. “For you, of course. But if your cat wants a bite, I’ll run.”

Clara’s cat is named Mr. Whiskers. He is white, fluffy, and a little jealous. He always stares at Ben with big, angry eyes.

Ben sits on the couch. Mr. Whiskers jumps next to him and growls.

“Why does your cat hate me?” Ben asks.

“Because I love you more,” Clara says with a smile.

Ben looks at the cat. “Let’s be friends. I can read you a book!”

Clara laughs. “He likes fish, not books.”

Then Clara brings out a heart-shaped cake. “I baked this for you,” she says.

Ben looks surprised. “Wow! I brought cake, and you made cake. This is a cake date!”

Mr. Whiskers meows loudly.

Ben whispers, “I think your cat is angry again.”

Clara laughs. “Maybe he wants us to break up.”

Ben stands up and says to the cat, “Sorry, Mr. Whiskers. But I’m staying. Forever.”

Clara blushes. “Forever?”

Ben holds her hand. “Yes. One day, I will marry you. But I have one question.”

“What is it?” she asks.

“Can Mr. Whiskers be our ring bearer?”

Clara laughs so hard that tears come to her eyes.

“I’ll ask him,” she says, “but he may say no!”

They laugh, eat cake, and cuddle on the sofa. Mr. Whiskers sits far away, watching them like a grumpy old man.

But even he knows—they are perfect for each other.
